The main topic of the accounting forum series 2020 held in 19 August 2020 is about maintaining the relevance of audit competencies by minimizing the gap between what was taught by academics and the practical implementation in audit world. We invited two speakers from two different worlds: Prof. Tarmizi Achmad, Ph.D., a lecturer of Department of Accounting, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Diponegoro and Tarkosunaryo, MBA, President of Indonesian Institute of Certified Public Accountants. The event is held at 11.00 – 14.00 and attended by students, lecturers and professors, government officials as well practitioners. The moderator for this event was Dr. Indira Januarti.
Both speakers come up with the same conclusion that minimizing the gap of audit competencies is of paramount importance. Particularly, students should be equipped with stronger professional values, ethics and attitudes as well as professional skills and professional knowledge. In doing so, focus of competencies should also be emphasized on audit procedures, risk assessment and response, compliance, evaluation to the audit evidence and audit report. This does not necessarily mean that the lectures should be more theory-oriented. Rather, use of case studies should also be highlighted. They also come up with the same conclusion that tech-savvy is also another must competencies that should be equipped in order to minimize this widening gap.
In order to follow up this discussion, next accounting forum will be inviting Mr. Handrow Cahyadi, Director of Audit and Assurance, KPMG Indonesia. He will be still be discussing the gap on theory and practice of audit competencies. But he will be focusing on the interesting topic: “future of audit is digital”. The event is scheduled on 31 August 2020, at 10.00 – 13.00
